Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
Your cat does not show any clinical signs of chronic kidney disease until 75% of their kidney function has been lost, screening and diagnosis require urine analysis and blood work.
The kidneys are vital organs that perform essential functions:
- Filtering and removing waste from the blood in urine
- Regulating essential mineral blood concentrations
- Helping to control blood pressure and red blood cell production
When CKD is present, the kidneys do not function properly and are unable to filter the blood effectively.
What are some common signs of CKD
- increased thirst
- urinating more often, larger volumes or urinary accidents
- fussy or loss of appetite
- nausea and vomitting
- weight loss
- lethargy and depressed appearance
